Zeke

Zeke was exhausted, but he found he couldn’t really sleep that night. Maybe it was the thought that he had come so close to death, maybe it was the idea that he had nearly let his mate down and lost her too.

Yes, even though they hadn’t acknowledged it out loud he already suspected there was something different about this girl, something special. He didn’t really care about the prophecy one way or another, but if fighting for the side of the light meant that Jane would stay safe then Zeke would do whatever he could to fight.

The ice fae, Ivy, escorted them to the guest wing, which was an opulent and sprawling gothic apartment with more rooms than a normal sized house. She told them to ring the bell if they needed anything and left them to themselves. Zeke thanked the platinum-blonde girl and closed the door to the suite. He followed Jane inside and they took in the large and extensive room.

“Quite something,” Jane said. She made her way over to an elaborately embroidered couch and lay down on it. “Man, I’m done,” she said.

Zeke lit a small fire in the hearth, pulled up a chair and watched the flames while he tended to his drink. The bright fire reflected in his crimson red eyes, dancing over his face and making the half covered in ink look as though it was dancing.

He wasn’t sure what it was, but something about this entire situation felt strangely familiar to him, like a dream that he had lived maybe once before. A great struggle between dark and evil, a prophecy on which the fates of all hinged.

The great dark one… why do I feel like I have ventured along this path before?

For the longest time he sat there with the question and let it mull over in his mind, getting up a few times and crossing back and forth through the apartment to refill his drink. His body ached from the fight that had almost killed him, more than anything sleep would be good, but for some reason he just couldn’t turn off his mind.

Back in the chair he threw another log on the fire, the flames consuming the wood, the tinder cracking slightly as it ignited. As he sat
